You may enjoy rambling on in a blog. But do you know what? Most readers will only read the first bit.
So you need to make sure that first bit packs a punch. Best way is to only show a summary and most blogs allow you to do this.

Here’s an example from the Physiobench blog

Jakob Nielsen has done a fascinating survey on how readers look at your blog.
In short, if your most recent blog article is shown in full, you risk using up all their interest without them ever reading your other blog postings.
Better to show the blog heading and a brief summary with a “more” link if they want to read further. That way they’re more likely to scan several of your latest blogs and drill down into one that interests them.

You’ve got to assume your visitors are fickle and choosy. Only if you’ve really established your name can you assume you’ve built any form of loyalty. This opens up a different discussion with your followers perhaps choosing to read your blogs by RSS Feed.
